Here at Silverline we provide an inclusive and supportive environment for all of our employees. One of our key goals is to create a company culture that encourages individuals to thrive, regardless of where they are located. With tools like The WaterCooler, Skype, GoToMeeting, Salesforce Chatter, and our Beam+ robot we equip individuals with the tools they need in order to succeed. We asked our remote employees to tell us about their experiences and this is what they had to say:

Tom Del Otero, our Senior Engagement Manager in New Jersey says, “Being a remote employee requires discipline, and sometimes a change of scene to shed “cabin fever,” but I love it. I especially love having zero commute, which leads to high productivity. I also enjoy having my dog at my office. Everyone at Silverline is very supportive which helps me get stuff done. I also like all of the activities Silverline organizes, some of which can be joined remotely, such as the all hands meetings, community user groups, and ping pong classes.”

Albert's Workplace

Albert Vanderley, our Mid-West Practice Director is located in Toronto and describes his remote experience: “I have been working at home for at least half of my career. The biggest bonus is the freedom of being home the second you are free of work. The downside is you always have work staring at you and you don’t always have a pulse on what is happening with the rest of the employees. My favorite thing is the freedom. I can wake up 5 minutes before a meeting and still be on time, or I can run an errand in the middle of the day and just finish my work in the evening. Silverline supports me by allowing for the opportunity to be a full part of the company with little to no restrictions on the job or the opportunities.”

Kapil Varma, our Data Architect in India states, “Being a remote employee saves me a lot of time, and allows the flexibility to work on off hours to support the team. My favorite items in my office are the desk and fast computer. The most significant thing in my office is the wallpaper, which reminds me that I am working for a company in the United States. Silverline supports me by providing the equipment to make my job easier, and respecting my working hours.”

Thomas Payne, our Engagement Manager & Solution Architect in California explains, “Working remotely is not for everyone, but for me, it seemed to be a natural progression in my pursuit of a work/life balance. I get up in the morning, make a cup of coffee and start working right away…no commute, no traffic, no stress. I love my workspace! A little over a year ago I invested in a big desk that accommodates the way I work, and that provides me plenty of space to spread out when I want. I also have multiple computers and screens running at the same time which helps me work efficiently. My desk meets all of my feng shui requirements. Silverline is very supportive. In addition to care packages, there are just enough touch point meetings to provide me the sense that I am part of a larger team.

Kara Lawhorn, our Account Executive in California explains that, “Being a remote employee is ridiculously awesome (as long as you don’t mind getting the majority of your human interaction for the week virtually). My favorite thing is that I get to be at home with my dog Olive. I have recently added the “Silver-Golden Globe” trophy to my desk which is nice because it reminds me of my co-workers and fun times in the NY office. I feel supported by Silverline in many ways, but my favorite is that I’m able to drive the robot around the New York office from San Francisco. This makes me feel included in what’s going on.”

Kathy Brown, our Solution Architect in Indiana believes, “They key to being a successful remote employee is to make being remote a non-event. It’s important to act as if you are in the office everyday.  I do this through morning coffee chats, lunch dates, and brainstorming sessions  over skype. I work in a place called Launch Fishers, which is a collaborative co-working space for anyone participating directly or indirectly in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It offers its members the opportunity to connect and collaborate with like-minded individuals, which, as every successful entrepreneur knows, can be the difference between growth and failure. Silverline supports me by keeping me in mind; they make sure remote employees attend company meetings and send us goodies bags. At the end of the day, we are just another employee; I don’t want to be considered “special” because I’m remote. The key is to make it a non-issue.”
