A Day In The Life: Mark Hoxie

A Day in the Life

Job Title: Marketing Automation Solution Architect
Start Date: September 2017
Fun Fact: I once drove to the Arctic Ocean for a quick swim.

What is your position at Silverline and what do you do?

As a Marketing Automation Solution Architect, I help our clients with anything that pertains to marketing automation. This can range from simple email sends to complex scoring and grading for lead routing, responsive drip campaigns, etc. While I’m versed in several MA platforms, Pardot is my real area of expertise.

What does your average day look like?

My day may be a little atypical compared to other Solution Architects. I’m typically involved in 7-8 projects at a time while also helping out with presales and internal projects for our marketing automation practice.

How did you find out about Silverline and your current position?

I was a contractor for Silverline before coming on full time as an employee. A 3rd party recruiter reached out to me for some contract work while I was doing the same for several other consultancies (and direct with a handful of clients).

What motivates you at work?

I have seen the work I’ve done with clients result in quantifiable successes. It’s a great feeling to come in and improve someone’s process in a way that makes their daily routine more efficient while also improving their company’s bottom line. A lot of what I do involves training and best practices so there’s also a lot of immediate gratification when you can teach someone something new.

What do you like most about your work?

I embrace the variety! I get to work with businesses in a wide range of industries with varying sizes and exposure to marketing automation. I’m a sponge for information so even though I’m focusing on delivering for the client, I’m constantly learning about banking, real estate, medicine, insurance, and all sorts of related business practices.

What are some challenges you face?

Time slicing can be a bit of a challenge. It takes a bit to shift gears between projects and I probably take more notes than most so that I don’t forget which conversations I’ve had with which clients. I can’t complain because this was exponentially more difficult when I was working as an independent contractor!

What new things have you learned since you began working at Silverline?

I’m learning a lot but there are two things that stick out most. First and most obviously, I have learned a great deal in relation to Marketing Cloud. I’ve had exposure over the years but this is by far the most hands-on I have been with MC.

Outside of that, I’ve grown substantially within Agile project management. So many companies claim to adhere to Agile practices but Silverline is the gold standard. Our project management processes and excellent Engagement Managers played a big part in why I decided to join Silverline.

What do you think makes Silverline a successful company?

I believe we hire the right people for the job. People create and maintain our processes. People deliver exceptional results for our clients. Our management is made up of people who have the vision to grow and move the company forward. It helps that we’re partnered with a product like Salesforce but I think it’s my coworkers that drive Silverline’s success.

What is your favorite perk?

My favorite perk is having the flexibility of working from home around my own schedule. My son, Victor, has Spina Bifida so it’s of critical importance I can be available for my family at varying times. On a lighter note, it’s my “Zesty Orange” Silverline vest…

What is your favorite memory?

Our holiday party has to be my favorite memory with Silverline. It was nice for my Wife to be able to meet the people who I’m so passionate about working with. We had a great time and it was hands down the best holiday party we’d ever attended.

What do you hope for your future at Silverline?

I would love to see the marketing automation team grow to a point where we have dedicated and regionalized BA’s, TA’s, and Development resources. I would hope that would allow me the chance to earn a leadership role so I could support people in very specific roles.

If you had a friend who was thinking about working for Silverline, what advice would you give them?

Read the reviews on Glassdoor, take an interview, and talk to some of the other employees. It doesn’t take much work to uncover what a great experience you can have at Silverline.
