What I Learned at the 2019 WITness Success Conference

By Chelsea A. Peterson 08.09.19

Did you know that you are a superhero? No, you weren’t aware of that? Well… You are! We all are. And we should lean into that and tap into our potential to make ourselves, our teams, our clients, and the world we live in the best they can be.

That’s what I learned at the 2019 WITness Success conference a couple of weeks ago. Hosted by Salesforce Women in Tech, #WITconf2019 was held in Nashville, TN, and brought together wonderful women and allies from across the country to talk all things Salesforce. Over two days, we attended sessions that empowered us personally and professionally, and bonded with one another, coming away with new skills, confidence, and friends.

Silverline in the spotlight

Silverline has been a sponsor of the WITness Success conference since its inception three years ago, and we were a sponsor again this year. We also had some of our very own brilliant women leading sessions at this year’s conference. Lizz Hellinga and Sarah Risen-Robertson hosted “Level Up Your Public Speaking Skills,” showing their own savvy as public speakers and providing tips and tricks to level up our public speaking game. Jill Harrison shared how Silverline’s diversity and inclusion group got started and how other companies can do the same with her talk, “Creating a Culture of Equality: How to Build Your Own Allies Program.” I was so glad to attend these sessions and see my colleagues (and friends) shine.

Other topics covered at #WITconf2019 sessions included managing productivity and focus, building amazing solutions, starting your own Salesforce consulting business, recruiting with an eye toward diversity and inclusion, and building your personal brand. My personal favorite session was entitled, “Finding Your Executive Presence and Mastering Courageous Communication.” I walked away feeling so inspired and ready to tackle just about anything.

Keynote confidence

One of the women who hosted my top session also gave the closing keynote of the conference. Rakia Finley is a rockstar in the Salesforce ecosystem and beyond, and her closing keynote was where I learned that I am a superhero. Rakia gave a great talk about how she taught herself tech and then became a business owner, and how she now uses her positions and passions to help others. She led us through a kinetic exercise where we physically tapped into our superpowers — supporting ourselves and all of the women around us. It was fairly exhausting but in the best possible way.

It was such a pleasure to attend the Witness Success conference this year. There was a ton packed into two days and I’m certainly not alone when I say I left Nashville feeling very inspired. I now begin each day reminding myself that I am, in fact, a superhero and can impact this world daily. We all can.
