Silverline Helps Launch the First Salesforce Financial Services User Group

By rmitchell 03.01.14

Last November marked Silverline’s third year sponsoring the renowned cloud computing event, Dreamforce. While the event serves as a platform for new product announcements and vendor exhibits it is, notably, a time to network with those in the Salesforce ecosystem. It was here that I met Cheryl Feldman, a business analyst from Standard & Poor’s. While we were talking shop, Cheryl expressed a concern: there were no Salesforce community groups supporting Financial Services industries. Silverline is a Salesforce Partner with extensive experience in the Financial Services sector and I knew our team would be eager to help.

Fast forward 3 months later and we are proud to announce Silverline is the official sponsor of the Salesforce Financial Services User Group! The group kicked off February 27th to a packed house that included co-leaders Cheryl Feldman; Adam Ady from General Atlantic; and, yours truly, Roger Mitchell from Silverline.

The purpose of the group is to facilitate collaboration and empower members of the Salesforce Financial Services Community. Discussions during the meeting included:

  • Helpful apps include Mobile Iron, Good, and CloudExtend
  • When considering your mobile strategy, it’s important to consider implementing a Single Sign-On process.
  • For data security, set up an internal firewall and maintain intentional duplicate records that share data back and forth.
  • When it comes to ensuring everything is secure, it’s best to work backwards. Start by making everything private by default, then use sharing rules to give access to certain data.
  • For global security concerns, CipherCloud is a tool to consider to provide local tokens.
  • Chatter may not be a fit for every Financial Services organization, but it can help eliminate email congestion. Management should consider using it as a tool to post notifications. For example, an admin could automate summarized announcements about fundraising events.
  • With publisher actions, admins can use clicks to create “buttons” in chat section that will accomplish accomplish actions that would have previously required code.
  • To encourage discussions, create Chatter Groups organized around specific goals and industry information. As a best practice, managers should be moderators.

Join the conversations over on the Financial Services User Group community page. Post questions to the over 500 members, answer questions, gain tips and tricks, and find information about our future meetings. We hope to see you there!
