For any organization on the Salesforce platform, Chatter is a core part of the daily workflow. In the Summer ‘18 Salesforce release, there are some exciting new enhancements coming that will make Chatter an even stronger platform for record collaboration and historical communication.

Enhanced Collaboration for Chatter in the Salesforce Summer ‘18 ReleaseWe all know that you can tag your co-workers and groups from a single record itself to draw the conversation to that page. In Summer ‘18, you will be able to include tags to individual records in your posts. For example, if you have been working on a group of files and you want to post a call for help in a specific Chatter group you can do that. Being able to link to up to 25 records in a single post using a simple forward slash (/) is going to save a lot of time and will further enhance the Chatter use case for collaboration.

You will be able to link records from a post, comment, and a question detail, but not the question itself. It is important to note, this will not extend visibility into a record to those that do not have access. If an individual does not have access they will see a Record Not Available message upon click-through. Both the Chatter REST API and Chatter in Apex will support linking to records from posts and comments. This feature will be available in Lightning Experience in Contact Manager, Group, Essentials, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions.Enhanced Collaboration for Chatter in the Salesforce Summer ‘18 Release 1

Another great feature in Summer ‘18 is the ability to pin more than a single post to a Chatter Group or Topic Feed. This will increase the maximum number of pinned posts from one to three. This allows you to post additional vital information and important messaging to your channel and helps to keep those messages from getting buried in the stream of communication.

This feature must be enabled by the system administrator but once enabled admins, group owners and manager can pin posts. You can assign the “Pin Posts in Feeds” permission to an additional user through user profiles and permission sets. This feature will be available in Lightning Experience in Contact Manager, Group, Essentials, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions.

Summer ‘18 brings with it some very cool new enhancements for Chatter. Extending platform collaboration is key to increasing overall platform adoption and should be a focus for any organization. Chatter continues to grow with the addition of new and convenient features designed to help with this goal. What’s your favorite new feature in Chatter? Let me know in the comments below.
