Improving healthcare and reducing costs is on everyone’s minds these days. But how? Learn how MiHIN made it easier for the state’s healthcare professionals to get the information they need when they need it to eliminate inefficiencies and improve care.
The Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) is Michigan’s initiative to continuously improve healthcare quality, efficiency, and patient safety by promoting secure, electronic exchange of health information through the MiHIN Health Information Services Cloud™ (HISC). MiHIN represents a growing network of public and private organizations working to overcome data sharing barriers, reduce costs, and ultimately advance the health of Michigan’s population.
CHALLENGES
MiHIN builds connections between every healthcare provider in the state to help doctors better understand patient needs. They were looking for a modern solution to support this data, built quickly and efficiently, that was scalable and could evolve with a changing healthcare landscape.
The agency uses Salesforce to make it easier for the state’s healthcare professionals to get the information they need when they need it to eliminate inefficiencies and improve care.
SOLUTION
A custom tool, built by Silverline on the force.com platform, creates unique identities to track complex relationships among healthcare providers, and stores their electronic delivery addresses so electronic health information can be transmitted securely.
It is essential that any shared data is routed properly, to only the right organizations and the right people within organizations. Controls within Salesforce ensure that privacy is maintained and information sharing meets compliance regulations.
“Silverline helped implement our vision for building a statewide directory to securely share health information between healthcare providers,” explains Tim Pletcher, Executive Director, Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN). “Silverline’s team produced results that are helping us offer better solutions for health information sharing that are already benefiting the people of Michigan.”
RESULTS
It is now easier than ever before for the state’s healthcare professionals to get the information they need when they need it to eliminate inefficiencies and improve care. The ability to share information throughout a care team reduces redundant care (such as readmissions or repeated tests), makes it easier to assign and handle referrals, and improves overall care.
Salesforce maintains information on 275,000+ providers while tracking and enabling users to understand the connections between doctors, hospitals, and healthcare facilities, and between all of those providers and patients.
