Q&A with a Salesforce Marketing Champion: Get to know JP Owens

Our very own Banking and Lending Practice Director, JP Owens, was recently named one of Salesforce’s new Marketing Champions. I chatted with JP about what the opportunity means to him.

Congratulations on being named a Salesforce Marketing Champion! How did this come about?

I believe I came across the program in late 2019 and submitted my application right around the time I joined Silverline as the Banking & Lending Practice Director

Marketing has always been my passion and it’s where I started with Salesforce. My first hands-on experience with any of the Salesforce clouds was with Marketing Cloud/ExactTarget. I would spend most of my days digging for online resources to make the HTML emails look just right and ways to make dynamic email journeys for our Mortgage team at my bank. The last couple of years I have spent a significant amount of time in Marketing building lead forms, lead queues, onboarding, nurture campaigns and more. 

What are the responsibilities and opportunities associated with this new title? What most excites you?

I am committed and excited to participate in the program for one full year. I will be sharing best practices, trends and stories about how we are driving transformation through marketing programs. 

I am most excited about collaborating with this group of Marketing Champions. It is a very talented group with tons of great experience. 

How does being recognized in this way change your day-to-day experience in the Salesforce ecosystem?

I am not sure yet. I currently feel very connected based on the role I play at Silverline. I hope this will expand that network as well as expand my understanding of all of the great marketing platforms and how I can leverage them going forward. I will likely spend more time on the Community pages and share success stories more often. 

What are some perks or advantages to being a Marketing Champion?

Obviously the custom #MarketingChampion swag! And of course, a platform that provides the opportunity to collaborate and connect together. 

Any words of wisdom for hopeful future Salesforce Marketing Champions?

Be curious. When I first started in the ecosystem, I spent my days asking questions about business challenges and turned those challenges into opportunities for growth. I spent my evenings watching ExactTarget training YouTube videos trying to create scalable solutions.
